Nebo Lodge maintains a strong commitment to the environment and to the local community. Environmentally friendly and Maine-made options, from cleaning products to light bulbs, are used whenever possible, and the restaurant serves locally grown and produced, mostly organic food--much of it from on the island itself. Guestrooms and common areas alike feature gorgeous tufted wool rugs, throw pillows and linens by Angela Adams, a nationally known designer who grew up on the island, local artwork hangs on the walls, and the shelves are full of works by local writers. Even the toothpaste and soap placed in each guest room is made in Maine. Finally, Nebo Lodge is deeply committed to its employees and strives to provide wages that allow them to remain a part of the vibrant year-round community.

- Newly installed, energy-efficient boiler and hot water heaters

- New deck features recycled plastic decking
- Used recycled lumber in renovation
- All kitchen waste is composted (except meat and fish)
- Recycle all paper, plastic, cardboard, metal and glass allowed
- Parking lot is gravel, not asphalt
- All bathrooms have low-water-use showerheads and toilets
- Kitchen and some bathrooms have
- Florbo flooring (all other floors are original wood)
- Rewired all floor and table lamps
- Refurbished old furniture rather than buying new
- Guest rooms have Maine-made organic cotton blankets
- All paper products, from toilet paper to menus, are 100% recycled, chlorine-free
- Most cleaning products are non-toxic, environmentally friendly
